‘Unseen’ sustainability

Félix Martí, Resuinsa Experiences CEO

One lesson we have learnt these last few years is that sustainability goes beyond being a mere competitive advantage. It is a must. Nevertheless, any company committed to real sustainability must also ask itself whether it is doing everything it possibly can: not just what is obvious but also what goes ‘unnoticed’.

On their journey to sustainability, many hotels have focused on the obvious, such as energy-saving systems, water management, eliminating single-use plastics, etc. All of this adds up and is truly necessary. However, they should also be looking at what initially goes unnoticed, those small objects for guests that are rarely considered.

A lot of these items are made from materials that are neither recycled nor reused. And when they are no longer useful, they end up like almost everything else without a plan B—straight to landfill. The problem lies in manufacturing, where products are made as if they had no future life whatever their environmental impact. Therefore, at a time when guests are ever better informed and demand coherent approaches from companies, being ‘greener’ on a grand level is just not enough. Real sustainability should also be seen in the smallest of details.

Recycled and recyclable accessories

For this reason, here at Resuinsa we have been at the forefront of change with our commitment to a new area focused on recycled and recyclable accessories, especially designed for the hotel sector. Marrying quality, functionality and design, these products all specifically aim to reduce environmental impact.

This approach lies at the heart of the company’s VITA collection, implementing a 100% circular economy by offering accessories such as slippers, toiletry bags, door hangers and coasters that have been designed with recycled hotel textiles. The aim is to embrace sustainability across every detail in hotel bedrooms, with guests themselves able to appreciate a sense of a coherence, commitment and care throughout their stay. Guests should be aware they are staying at a hotel that is embracing the future, without foregoing present-day comforts.

In this sense, by making a conscious commitment hotels can educate, inspire and plot a journey towards sustainability. For us, it is not just about manufacturing products; it involves a spirit and work commitment we aim to share with a sector that aspires to leave a lasting impression on guests… without generating any waste.
